The legend

Who is Ploy?

Ploy (พลอย, meaning “gem”) is a young female common hippo who lives at Samutprakan Crocodile Farm & Zoo in Thailand. Her mother is Mook (มุก, meaning “pearl”).

She went viral for one very relatable reason: whenever a visitor misses the watermelon throw, she sulks. Head shake. Side-eye. Dramatic dive. The internet fell in love.

On October 14, 2026, the zoo’s official Facebook page confirmed her name: the hippo in the viral clip is Ploy, and the other hippo is her mom, Mook.
